धर्मग्रंथों (तिपिटक) का कितना ही पाठ करे, लेकिन
प्रमाद के कारण मनुष्य उन धर्मग्रंथों के अनुसार आचरण नहीं करता, तो दूसरों की गोंवे
गिनने वाले ग्वालो की तरह वह श्रमणतत्व का भागी नहीं होता है।
Though
much he recites the sacred texts, but acts not accordingly, that heedless man is like a cowherd who counts others’ kine. He has no share in the
fruits of the holy life.
धर्मग्रंथों का भले थोडा ही पाठ करे, परन्तु यदि वह
(व्यक्ति) धर्म के अनुसार आचरण करने वाला होता है, तो राग, द्वेष और मोह को त्याग कर,
संप्रज्ञानी बन, भली प्रकार विमुक्त चित्त वाला होकर इहलोक अथवा परलोक में कुछ भी आसक्ति
न करता हुआ श्रमणतत्व का भागी हो जाता है।
Though little he recites the sacred texts, but
acts in accordance with the teaching, forsaking lust, hatred and ignorance,
truly knowing, with mind well freed, clinging to nothing here and hereafter, he
shares the fruits of the holy life.
